2-Day Basic Mediation Training

Community Mediation Services is offering a two-day training for local organizations.
Training is from 8:30 am - 6:00 pm on both days.
16 CLE/CEU credits available (lawyers/counselors/social workers/therapists)
Trainer: Shelley Whalen
Why Mediation Training:
Throughout the country a new awareness has emerged that the courthouse is not the best or only place for people to go for help when they are in conflict. Individuals, families and organizations involved in disputes are now turning to mediation as an alternative to the adversarial legal process.
Ohio courts are frequently referring disputing parties to mediation as a less expensive and less time-consuming alternative to litigation.
As more individuals and organizations are becoming aware of the advantages of mediation, many professionals are recognizing the benefits of expanding their career base to include conflict resolution services such as mediation

Rewriting a Zoning Code for a Modern City Understanding the Impact on Affordable Housing and Neighborhoods
March 22, 2022 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join United Way of Central Ohio at this event!
It is obvious to the casual observer that our region is growing. In fact, 90% of the population growth in Ohio in the last decade occurred in Metro Columbus. Within the City of Columbus, the 2020 Census revealed it was the largest decade of growth in the city’s history, adding almost 120,000 more residents. The city’s current zoning was written in the 1950s and no longer aligns with how the city is growing. An effort is underway to rewrite the zoning code, and it will have far-reaching impacts on both existing neighborhoods and how the city grows for decades to come. Join a panel of city officials and nonprofit leaders to discuss how a new zoning code will change our city and impact affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, and development, and accommodate future growth.
Featured Speaker(s): Moderator: Michael Wilkos, Sr. Vice President, Community Impact, United Way of Central Ohio; Carlie Boos, Executive Director, Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio; Leah F. Evans, President & CEO, Homeport; Erin J. Prosser, Assistant Director of Housing Strategies, The City of Columbus; Kevin Wheeler, Assistant Director for Growth Policy, The City of Columbus

Advancing Pay Equity in Our Community: The Columbus Commitment
March 25, 2022 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Register for this virtual event here!
Please join the Columbus Women's Commission on Friday, March 25, 2022, and learn how to join our movement in 2022: 100 Adopters. 100 Days. 100% Committed!
Overall, women in the United States are paid 83 cents for every dollar paid to white men, amounting to an annual gender wage gap of $10,435. Women of color experience an even greater disparity. African American women earn 63 cents for every dollar a white man makes, while Latina women earn 54 cents.
Pay inequality isn’t just a women’s issue, it’s a family issue and an economic issue. These lost wages mean women and their families have less money to support themselves, save and invest for the future as well as spend on goods and services.
Paying your employees equitably is, put simply, the right thing to do – and it’s good for business. Research has shown that increasing diversity in business fosters innovation, improves the bottom line and helps with recruitment.
In 2017, the Columbus Women’s Commission created the Columbus Commitment a voluntary, employer-led pledge to close the wage gap and achieve pay equity for working women. To-date, over 285 local employers have signed the pledge and are examining their practices to address equity.
In this webinar, First Lady and Chair of the Columbus Women’s Commission, Shannon Ginther, will share about the Columbus Commitment and the benefits of joining. A panel of commissioners and local employers will share best practices for building equitable and inclusive workplaces, and answer attendee
Launching during the month of International Women’s Day and Equal Pay Day, the pay equity campaign, 100 Adopters.100 Days. 100% Committed. will run from March 25 through July 3.
We invite employers to learn how to become one of the 100 new adopters in the next 100 days!
Have questions before the webinar? Email Christina Ratleff at CLRatleff@columbus.gov.
